SCREEN LAYOUT OVERVIEW
The top line tells you which of the 3 event lists you are viewing. The
next line displays the event data headings. The majority of the screen
shows the events. The hi-lite bar is initially located on the first
event. You move it using the cursor keys. Pressing End will move you to
the end of the list. Pressing Home will move the hi-lite bar to the
first item in the list. If there are more than 40 events then PgUp and
PgDn moves to the next and previous pages respectively. The next to last
line of the screen shows your Menu selections. To select a particular
function just press the hi-lited key associated with that function. For
example, you'd press C to Continue.
Let's look at each of these areas in more detail.
THE THREE LISTS
There are three event lists. The lists always appear in the following order:
"These events occurred while you were away."
These events happened since the last time you used Remind Me!. They
are shown just in case you forgot and/or want to reschedule any of
them. Recurring events will have already been rescheduled even tho
they appear on the list. If there are no events in this list the
next list "DON'T FORGET" will appear first, else press C to continue.
"DON'T FORGET"
These are upcoming events that are within their lead time. I'll
explain lead time in a minute. Basically, these are the events that
you wanted to be reminded of at this point in time. You can move on
to the next screen by pressing C to Continue.
"Complete listing of events"
This list contains all the events in the file, sorted by number of
days until the event occurs. Non-recurring events which have
already passed are listed first.
EVENT DATA HEADINGS
The second line on the screen displays the headings for the event data.
DTE Days to Event: the number of days until the event occurs.
Events that only occur once, and have already past, have a negative DTE
indicating how many days ago they happened.
Event Event description
Date Date of the event
Code How the date is determined. Non-recurring events have no code.
Y denotes yearly events, M is for monthly events. Recurring day-of-the-
week events show the occurrence first (0-5 with 0 being every week, 1
being the first week .... 5 being the last week) followed by the first 2
letters of the day of the week. Examples:
0Tu every Tuesday
3Mo 3rd Monday of every month
Y yearly, birthdays for example
M monthly, car payments for example
5Su last Sunday of each month
non recurring event
LT Lead Time. When you add an event you specify how far in
advance you want to start being reminded of it. This is the lead time of
the event. For example, Mom's birthday is May 18th but you want Remind
Me! to start reminding you 1 week in advance. So when asked what the
lead time is, you'd enter 7, for 7 days. If you only want to be notified
on the day of the event, then enter 0 as the lead time.
MENU SELECTIONS:
To perform the desired function press the hi-lited key. Your choices,
depending on the event list being displayed, are:
Reschedule lets you change the "date" of the hi-lited event
Print sends the list of events being reviewed to the printer
Continue continues on to the next list
Quit exits the program
Jump asks you to input a date. The hi-lite bar then jumps to the
first entry that occurs on or after the date.
Add lets you add an event. The process is self explanatory
except perhaps for the first question: Actual date - Day of week -
Project? This is asking how the event date is defined. If it can be
defined by a numeric date like January 10th, or the 1st of each month,
the press A for Actual date. If it's defined by a day of the week, such
as every Tuesday or the last Friday of the month, then press D for Day of
week. However, if it's defined as occurring so many days from today
(like 30 days from now) then press P for Project.
Depending on which option you select, you'll be asked a variety of
questions. The acceptable response range for each question will be
displayed in the question. If the values in the response range are hi-
lighted then just press the appropriate key, else you need to press
Return after your input.
Delete deletes the hi-lited event. Since the event isn't actually
deleted until you quit the program, you can restore it by Deleting it
again. In other words, deleting an already deleted item will restore it.
Hide hides the event from view but doesn't delete it. Let's say
an event "Rent is due" occurs on the first of each month. It has a
lead time of 5 days. Sure enough, 5 days before rent is due Remind Me!
starts reminding you. So you pay the rent. Why continue being bugged
for the next 4 days? Hide the event. That way it won't show up for the
next 4 days. Don't worry, it automatically becomes visible again next
time the event is getting near.
Konfigure lets you specify how many days you want to keep past events in
the file and whether you have a color monitor or not.
Fix Press this key if things go sour. You'll be given the
following options:
Start over: starts over WITHOUT saving any changes made during this
session.
Quit without saving changes: quits without saving any changes made
during this session.
Change date: lets you input today's date over again. The program
will begin again using the new date as today's date.
Update DTE's: a situation may arise where one or more of the DTEs
are incorrect. Pressing U will update all the DTEs. Make sure
that today's date is correct.
Exit Fix: returns you to the event listing.
Calendar brings up a mini calendar showing today's date and the month
before and after today. You will have several options. Pressing Esc
will return you to the event listing. Pressing the up/down cursor keys
with change the year, the left/right cursor keys change the month.
Pressing C lets you change the calendar to a new date. What day of the
week were you born? When is New Years in the year 2000? Remind Me! will
show you in seconds.
Each day when you first turn on your computer, Remind Me! can quickly
list the important upcoming events on your screen, and quit, without
requiring any input from you! It's nice because it's fully automatic and
it only happens the first time you boot your computer each day.
* If you have a hard disk, put the following in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
CD \??? (where ??? = subdirectory where Remind Me! files are)
RME
CD \
* If you don't have a hard disk then put the phrase "B:RME" into
the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the disk you use to boot your system, and
have the Remind Me! disk handy whenever you turn on your computer.
After Remind Me! lists the events it quits. If you'd like Remind Me! to
wait for a keypress before quitting use "RME/P" instead of "RME".
